Hall of Fame Professional Hockey Player, Coach. A native of Baldur, Manitoba, Canada, he played as a defenseman for sixteen seasons (1947 to 1948, 1949 to 1965) in the National Hockey League, with the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins. In the course of his career, Johnson was a member of six Stanley Cup championship teams (1953, 1956 to 1960 Canadiens), was selected to eight NHL All-Star Teams (1952, 1953, 1956 to 1960, 1963) and was awarded the James Norris Memorial Trophy for Outstanding Defenseman in 1959. After retiring as a player, Johnson was a coach for three seasons (1970 to 1973) with the Bruins and guided them to the 1971-1972 Stanley Cup championship title. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970. In 978 career NHL regular season games, Johnson scored 51 goals with 213 assists. As a coach his regular season record is 142 wins, 43 losses and 23 ties.
