In the 1860 census, Lawson was living in Louisville precinct, occupation potter, age 35. He was issued a land patent on May 25, 1883 by the land Patent Office of Jackson, Mississippi.
In the 1870 census, Lawson continues to be found in Winston County as a potter.
According to the birthpalces of his Children as noted in the census records, Lawson apparently moved to Winston County between 1856 and 1858. He was a poter there. Archaeologist have noted that by 1909, three generations of the Loyd family had made stones ware in Winston County.
