LeRoy F. Mahnke, 72, of 1621 Hillcrest Dr., Manitowoc, died Tuesday evening, July 13, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Keith Haag will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Mahnke, was born Aug. 4, 1909, at Manitowoc, son of the late R.W. and Frieda Berlin Mahnke. He was educated at First German Lutheran School and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1927. In 1932 he graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. He married Ester Waarum, May 4, 1935, at Friesland, Wis., with his uncle, Rev. August Paetz officiating. Mr. Mahnke was employed with Manitowoc County for 39 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and the stewardship committee of the church, Alpha Gamma Rho, Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Sciences alumni association, 25 year member of Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors, chairman of City of Manitowoc zoning board of appeals, member of Golden K Kiwanis Club and Wisconsin Alumni Association.
Survivors include his wife, Esther W.; a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Raymond Duemke of Milwaukee; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Gladys Mahnke of Manitowoc; a sister and brother-in-law, LaVerne and Allen Jansky of Manitowoc; three granddaughters, Michelle, Sara and Gretchen Duemke and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Calvin C. Mahnke in 1965.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei State St. Chapel, Manitowoc, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and until 11 a.m. Saturday and then at the church from noon until the hour of ee (sic) services. eur. (sic) Memorials may be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc Lutheran High School or donors choice. Memorial service 6:30 p.m. Friday by Golden K Kiwanis Club.
