Major George Edward Maltby of Salvation Army Corps, 84, of 1711 Wollmer St., Manitowoc, died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 15, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Salvation Army Citadel, Manitowoc. Major Oliver Poling will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Major Maltby was born Oct. 25, 1897, at Barrie, Ontario, Canada, son of the late Staff Capt. George Maltby and the late Sarah Banks Maltby. He was commissioned as a Salvation Army Corp Officer in 1923. He was a veteran of United States Army, serving in World War I. He married Anna Maude Whitby, Oct. 3, 1929, at Chicago, Ill. Major Maltby was a life member of American Legion Veterans. He served in the Salvation Army Corps in the Trade Department at Chicago, Ill. He also served at Pekin, Ill.; Mitchell, S.D.; Sioux City, Iowa; Mens Social at Milwaukee, Wis., Manitowoc and Superior, Wis., Hancock, Mich., and Nevada and West Plains, Mo. The couple retired to Manitowoc to reside in June of 1963.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Maude; a son and daughter-in-law, David G. and Joan Maltby of Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen J. and Edward J. Brinkman of L'Anse, Mich., and Lois A. and Hans Friede of Molndol, Sweden; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday until 11 a.m., and at Salvation Army Citadel from noon until the time of services.
