Pearl H. Mathies age 93, a Manitowoc resident, received the promise of eternal life with her Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, June 13, 2012 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

The former Pearl Gadeke was born on December 22, 1918 in Chicago, IL, daughter of the late John and Hannah (Thorson) Gadeke. She grew up in Chicago and attended John Marshall High School. On August 31, 1940, Pearl was married to Marvin C. Mathies at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL. The couple celebrated there 71st wedding anniversary last August. In the past Pearl worked at the National Tinsel Factory, Mirro, and Spahna & Weiler Bakery. Pearl was one of the last two surviving charter members of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bethany's Ladies Aid and the Manitowoc Senior Center.

Survivors include her loving husband: Marvin C. Mathies; Manitowoc, one sister: Delores Mathies; Green Bay, one brother and sister-in-law: Russell (Marion) Gadeke, Besenville, IL nieces, nephews other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Hannah Gadeke.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012 at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. The Rev. Robert Kujawski will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is serving the Mathies family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.jensreinboldandpfeffer.com. A memorial fund has been established in Pearl's name for Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church.



Marvin would like to thank the staff's of Laurel Grove and Shady Lane for all the wonderful and patient care shown to Pearl and himself and to all who visited them while living there. What was first in Marvin and Pearl's life was their love for each other and especially their love for the Lord Jesus which they celebrated through regular means of grace in the word and sacrament.
