Fred came to Twin Bridges in 1890 from Lorraine Township, Illinois. He was hired as a horse trainer ath the Armston Ranch (now the Bayer Ranch). His job was caring for the mare that foaled Spokane, the Kentucky Derby Winner in 1889.We then worked as a hoisting engineer at the mines in Rochester. Then he worked on the dredges at Alder Gulch. In 1898, he became a carpenter-contractor and he built numerous buildings in the Twin Bridges area. This is the job he kept for the next 60 years. Fred married Gertrude Willett Thornton June 1, 1910 in Twin Bridges.
