Visitation and Services
Funeral Services for Richard Allen Yancey, Sr. will be held at 11:00 AM Friday September 14, 2012 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Rev. Ronnie LeFevers officiating. Interment with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow in the Burke Memorial Park .
The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Friday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.

Obituary
Mr. Richard Allen Yancey, Sr., 64, of Valdese, went to be with his Heavenly Father Tuesday September 11, 2012 at the Charles George VA Medical Center, Asheville, after a period of declining health. "He gave it a hard fight."
Mr. Yancey was born August 9, 1948 in Burke County, a son of the late Ralph and Connie Burns Yancey. He was a graduate of Valdese High School and Western Piedmont Community College with a degree in criminal justice. He retired from the NC State Dept. of Correction, Western Youth Institute, after 30 years of service. Richard was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War a member and Past Master of the Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge # 217 Morganton, a duel member of Lovelady Masonic Lodge 670, Valdese, the Oasis Shrine Temple and the East Burke Shrine Club. He attended Bollinger's Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed working with and viewing classic cars.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Yancey.
He is survived by a daughter, Kelly Bradshaw and husband Joe of Valdese, son Richard Allen Yancey, Jr. of Drexel, his lifelong companion, Linda Kiddy of Valdese, three brothers, Jimmy Yancey (Carolyn) of Connelly Springs, Gary Yancey (Ann) of Morganton, Jerry Yancey (Lynn) of Newton, two sisters, Sue Dula (Steward) of Granite Falls and Norma Kiser (Paul) of Connelly Springs. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Ella and Jonah Bradshaw, Christain Sizemore, Richard Allen Yancey, III, Kelsey Stump, a number of nieces and nephews and his feline friend Snow Ball.
