Myrtle Creran was born in Newark at a home on 3rd Ave, the daughter of the late Fred and Lulu Gundell Eggleston. Myrtle was the couple's second daughter. Their first, Mildred, born in 1905, died at the age of two months, possibly as the result of poor birthing practices (an "instrument baby"). She is buried in the baby section of Fairmount cemetery, Newark (no headstone).
Myrtle lived in New Jersey her entire life and attended Barringer High School in Newark.
Her first job was a clerical position with Mutual Benefit Insurance in Newark. She was also a Practical Nurse, employed by Overlook Hospital, Summit before retiring in 1959 after numerous years of service.
She lived in Denville from 1947-2000. She then moved to the Heath Village Retirement Community in Hackettstown until August, 2004 when she made her final move to Morris View Nursing Home.
Myrtle was a member of Church Of The Saviour Episcopal Parish, Denville and St. Martha's Guild at the same church. She also belonged to the Denville Women's Society and was a "Friend of the Library" in Denville, Rockaway Borough. A section of a large quilt on display in the library was done by Myrtle (the Estling Lake Icehouse). She also volunteered with the Denville Historical Society for many years.
Myrtle maintained a summer home at Estling Lake, Denville for over 40 years. Estling Lake meant a great deal to her and she passed that meaning on to her children and grandchildren. Her winter home was near Rock Ridge Lake, Denville.
She had two marriages. Her first was to Edward Muir MacIntosh with whom she had two children: Barbara Kathryn and Bruce Edward. Her second marriage was to Norman Creran with whom she had a son: Dennis.
Myrtle passed away at the age of 94 in the Morris View Nursing Home, Morris Township.
