A sergeant with the Los Angeles Police Department, Baab was killed at a party held in his home by his longtime friend and "war buddy", George S. Arnold in the home Baab and his wife shared with Arnold. While Arnold claimed it was self-defense and that Baab was threatening him over his affair with Mrs. Baab, she denied the allegations and testified that he lost his temper, grabbed her husband's .45 caliber revolver, and shot him. The jury found him guilty of manslaughter and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. They lived at 700 Lucille Ave, in the East Hollywood area of Los Angeles.
