Illustrator. It has been written that "the elegant comic-book art of Curt Swan defined the look of Superman for over 30 years. His amazing skills at storytelling, draftsmanship, and design brought a realism and sense of wonder to The Man of Steel's adventures, making them the best-selling comic books of their day."
While known as the "definitve" Superman artist, Swan also illustrated the adventures of The Legion of Super-Heroes, Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, Boy Commandos, Superboy and others for DC Comics since the 1940s. He was also a staff cartoonist for the armed forces newspaper, "The Stars and Stripes" during World War II. Swan was found dead of an apparent heart-attack at his home surrounded by comic books. Swan was cremated and his ashes were given to his daughter Cecilia.
