MERLE C. ASHEY
HOLDEN - Merle C. Ashey, 80, wife of the late Roy F. Ashey, died Nov. 19, 2003, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 1, 1923, in Brewer, the daughter of Henry E. and Viola K. (Kingsbury) Chute. Merle was a 1942 graduate of Brewer High School and was a resident of Brewer until moving to Punta Gorda, Fla. in 1964. She earned a degree in respiratory therapy in 1966 and worked for the Charlotte County Medical Center for seven years and later worked for Fawcett Medical Hospital until retiring to Maine. She worked for the Eastern Agency on Aging and for Community Health of Ellsworth. Merle was past president of VFW Auxiliary, Brewer, and was a current member of VFW Auxiliary, Ellsworth. She enjoyed her involvement with the Brewer Senior Citizens, loved the seashore and fishing. Surviving are four children, Ruth Beam and her husband, Charles, of Cutler, Nancy Tortoriello of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Margaret Robinson and her husband, Charlie, also of Port Charlotte, Fla. and David Robertson and his wife, Nancy, of Holden; one stepson, Jeffrey Ashey of Brewer; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Thelma D'Amboise of Florida. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Andrews of Portland and Laura Danforth of Brewer. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer, where family and friends may call from 12 noon until the time of the service. The Rev. George E. Curtis, III, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Brewer, will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Brewer.
