Killed in Action, World War II, at the age of 19, less than 9 months after his graduation from Rockford West High School; Oldest child of James & Anne Johnson Lonergan; Was active in school and in community, and was a lifeguard at Fairgrounds Pool, in Rockford, IL; Tom added the name 'Henry' to his middle name when it was discovered that his birth certificate was misplaced by Winnebago County officials (it was his Catholic Confirmation name). Initially interred in France, Tom was reburied with full military honors in the Lonergan Family plot in St Mary's Cemetary in 1949. His name, listed as 'Thomas J.H. Lonergan', is listed on the 'Wall of Honor' for 14th Infantry's museum located in Abilene, Texas. His name is among graduates on the West High 'Memory Walk' listed with the names of other graduates that fell in the service of their country.
