Sister Adele was the daughter of Alvin and Mary Pfeiffer Acton. Adele Cecilia entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1947 and became known as Sister Mary Alvin, professing her first vows in 1949 and her final vows in 1954. Sister Adele earned a BS in Education in 1954 and an MA in Theology in 1968 from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. During her professional life, Sister Adele was a teacher at the elementary and high school levels, as well as an elementary school principal. She served in the Archdiocese of St. Louis where she taught in Epiphany School (1949-1952); Holy Redeemer School (1952-1969); St. Dominic High School (1969-1972); Epiphany School (1972-1991 and 1992-1997 teacher)(1991-1992 principal). Upon her retirement in 1997 she lived in Dominican Convent Sparkill, NY (1997-1999) and Loretto Center (2000-2005) where she offered local community service. She became a resident of Siena Hall Infirmary in 2006 for a short time before her death. Sister Adele is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She is predeceased by her brothers and sisters; Mary Margaret, Alvin (Reverend Alvin Acton), Ruth, Vincent and Eugene.
