My Father. My Hero.

Son of Francis W II & Lillian E (Lambert) Carney.

Husband of 46 years to Rosanne P (Clark) Carney.
Together for 52 years, they truly were the love of each other's lives.

Beloved Father of 4 children, Grandfather of 10 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren.

Devoted brother to 10 siblings.

Paternal Grandson of Francis W I & Anna E Carney.

Maternal Grandson of James A G & Margaret J Lambert.

Much loved Son-In-Law of Ralph J & Jerry F Clark.

My Father began working at the young age of 10, shining shoes on the streets of Charlestown, MA. He also sold newspapers & worked at Red's Variety Store, hauling blocks of ice. My Dad & his family lived in a large tenament known as "The Chambers". He described the living condtions as being very poor & that the building was infested with rats. He had to quit school in the 8th grade to help support his family. He later worked as a mechanic for most of his life.

In 1959, my Dad's life changed forever the night he walked into a dance being held at The East Side Improvement Association in Brockton, MA. My Mom swears to this day that it was like "a spotlight" shown down upon my Dad as he entered the building wearing a white Barracuda jacket. My Mom turned to one of her girlfriends & said "I'm gonna marry that guy...". Six years later on July 16th 1965, that's exactly what happened!

Appropriately, Dad & Mom's "song" was "Sixteen Candles" by The Crests.
Mom bought the record for my Dad's birthday the same year they met.

Dad served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. Being an expert marksman, he was assigned to duty as a sharpshooter at the Berlin Wall.

Proud member of the DAV.

Dad enjoyed watching movies & TV shows, music (everything from Doo-Wop to Opera), cooking, all Boston sports teams & just being with his family that adored him.

Two of my sisters both wrote eulogies for our Dad. One was read at the funeral parlor, the other at the church. Honest & beautiful words from the heart, that any daughter who adores her father will understand...

My sister Kerry wrote:

"I would like to take a moment & tell you something about my Dad. Now, where would I begin? If you know my Dad, you know he was all about his family. 'Take care of your family', he would say,'Family is everything'. The love he had for his children & grandchildren was endless. And the love he had for my Mother runs so deep it will last through death itself. I knew a lot of people loved & respected my Dad, but last night I was blown away to see how many people my Dad touched over the years. If he was here, he would be proud to see how his life had such an impact. I love you Dad, & it's not goodbye - it's wait for me, so when it is MY turn, you can return the piece of my heart you took when you left. I love you Dad."

My sister Kara wrote:

"My Father was an exceptional man. He lived his life for his family. As most of you know, my parents have been together for 52 years & married for 46 of those years. He was a loving husband, outstanding father, grandfather, brother & uncle, which whom he all loved dearly. He worked so hard his whole life to provide for his family. Not only was my Dad kind, caring, giving & selfless, he also possessed a great sense of humor. My Father would say 'Your Mother is the love of my life & I couldn't go on without her'. Now we're all trying to figure out how to go on without HIM. I am so grateful his spirit will live on through all the wonderful memories of each life my Father has touched. I long for the phone to ring & hear his voice on the other end say - 'What's up? How are the kids?' Even though there will forever be a constant ache in my heart, I feel so proud to be Charlie's daughter, but truly blessed to have him as my Dad."

Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best."
