County Music Songwriter, Producer. Member of Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, his songs were recorded by such artist as Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby, and Patsy Cline. He composed such hits as Jim Reeves' classic "He'll Have to Go" and Faron Young's "Live Fast, Love Hard, and Die Young." His first big success as a songwriter came when Tex Ritter (actor John Ritter's father) recorded the Top-Ten Hit "When You Leave" and "Don't Slam the Door" in 1946. His biggest success came with "He Have to Go" in 1960. Other artists who recorded his work were Tom Jones, Nat King Cole, Ray Price, Eddy Arnold and The Limeliters. He died aged 77 from lung disease.
