"Father of the Press in Mississippi". Soldier in the Revolution under General Wayne. Brought the first printing press to the then Mississippi territory in the late 1790s. From around 1801 until a few years before his death he was involved in newspaper publishing. He also served as local postmaster and justice of the peace.
