“Mrs. Bertha Egbert Dies At Liberal, Kansas –
Mrs. Bertha E. Egbert, 77, of Liberal, Kansas, and formerly of Cimarron, died Saturday morning July 6, in the hospital there after a short illness.
Mrs. Egbert was born in Kirksville, Mo., August 27, 1879 and came to southwest Kansas when she was a young girl. She was married in Cimarron to P.C. (Collie) Egbert and they homesteaded on land near Gray Center, south of Ingalls in 1903. They later moved to the ranch between Ingalls and Cimarron now owned by L.M. Olmstead where they lived for years and raised their family. They then moved to Cimarron, living in the old Francisco place, just east of the Standard Oil Filling station.
Mrs. Egbert was a member of the Christian Church, past worthy matron of the Eastern Star here, and a member of the Rebekah lodge.
She is survived by three sons, Ora of Dodge City, Gilbert of Ingalls and Earl of Delta, Colorado; one daughter, Mrs. Otto Mehl of Liberal; two sisters, Mrs. Dema Peters of Chula Vista, Calif. And Mrs. C. D. Jennings of Hutchinson; 20 grand children and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday morning, July 8 in the Christian Church at Liberal, with interment in the Cimarron cemetery, with a graveside service.” – Cimarron Jacksonian, July 11, 1957
