Steve Jr., David's older brother, was playing with a new handgun that he had purchased 10-days earlier. The firearm discharged while Steve was spinning it on his finger "Robocop-style", and fired a single bullet into David's head. Steve thought the gun was unloaded. David died minutes later at the U.K. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington from injuries sustained from the gunshot.
Steve plead "Guilty" to a charge of felony homicide and accepted two-year prison sentence. A judge later sentenced Steve to 5-years probation in lieu of jail-time. As a result of his conviction, Steve has lost the right to vote, the right to carry a weapon, and lost his best friend.
