"One morning I was standing at my gate when two men drove up in a two-horse wagon, and asked me to get in and go home with them, about quarter of a mile distant. On the way, one asked me if I had heard the news, and informed me that four men had come to Kirtland with a golden Bible and one of them had seen an angel . . . I did not feel inclined to make light of such a subject. I made no reply, but thought that if angels had administered to the children of men again I was glad of it." It was a few months later that he met Elders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kirtland, Ohio and converted to the Church.
He stayed in Kirtland and witnessed many marvelous things, he was persecuted with the rest of the Saints, attended Zion's Camp, and was ever faithful.
While residing in Missouri, a ruthless mob attacked the settlement and, "the first shots fired by the mob wounded Philo Dibble in the bowels, the balls remaining in him. As he bled much inwardly his bowels became swollen, and his life was despaired of. Newel Knight, however, administered to him, by laying on hands in the name of Jesus Christ, and a purifying fire penetrated his whole system. He discharged several quarts of blook and corruption, with which one of the balls that inflicted his wounds. He was immediately healed."
Philo lived to take part in the defense of Nauvoo, Illinois thirteen years later; and soon removed to the Rocky Mountains, where he died at the age of 90.
