Young Trapper Killed Accidentally When Gun Fell From Scabbard

Early Wednesday morning Fredrick Henry Arnett left home to look after some traps he had set nearby and which he was going to take up and add to a trap line he maintained near the old Fox farm. he was accompanied by his 6 year old nephew, Junior Robinson, son of J.R. Robinson. They had secured the traps and were returning home for breakfast. Young Arnett was carrying a 410 pistol type gun in a holster at his side and in attempting to pass under some small brush the gun apparently fell from the holster and the hammer struck a rock which discharged the weapon. the mild charge of shot struck the young man in the center of the chest and he died almost instantly.

The little boy rushed to the house and notified the parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Arnett, who reside on the Vogan place about 5 miles north of Cedaredge. They found the body as indicated by the boy and at once notified the Underdetective Hall, who went at once to the scene. As all the evidence showed clearly that the death was accidental, the coroner waived an inquest and the body was brought to Cedaredge and prepared for funeral.

Fred H. Arnett was born in Lafavette County Missouri and was 27 years old the 12 day of last month. The family came to this vicinity about 2 years ago. He had served 3 years at Fort Bliss in the Cavalry and possessed an honorable discharge. He was not well known here as he was of a quiet disposition and attended to his affairs which did not include mingling in town, He ws a great home boy and as a result his parents are even more than ordinarily grieved. in addition to the parents he is survived by two brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon at 2:00 O'clock with the rev. C.H. Stickle in charge. interment will be made in the Cedaredge Cemetery
