Painter. Cranach was a leading figure of German Renaissance art. He often painted religious subjects and portraits of important Reformation personalities, including a celebrated image of Martin Luther. In addition he created many nudes based on mythological figures. His son, known as Lucas Cranach the Younger, was also an important painter.

Gravesite Details

The grave plate is a copy, placed there to save the original in 1859. The original was placed in the Stadtkirche on the left side of the altar. The grave is in the crypt under the ivy in front of the plate.
