Screenwriter, Author. Born Gerald Allan Sohl, he first debuted his work in science fiction with “The 7th Order” in the March 1952 “Galaxy” magazine. The novel “The Haploids” (1952) followed and was quickly succeeded by “The Transcendent Man” (1953), “Costigan's Needle” (1953) and “The Altered Ego” (1954). Beginning in 1958, he branched out into television work, writing scripts, under various names, for “The Invaders” (1967-1968), “The Outer Limits” (1963-1965), “The Twilight Zone” (1959-1964), and “Star Trek” (1966-1969), once using the pseudonym of Nathan Butler for his credit on the episode entitled “This Side of Paradise” because he was displeased with another writer's reworking of his original script. His last published work was “Death Sleep” (1983), a near future medical thriller. Much of his work was collected for posthumous publication in “Filet of Sohl: The Classic Scripts and Stories of Jerry Sohl” (2003) edited by Christopher Conlon. (bio by: Iola)
