In the 1950s her family moved to Saint Louis. Barbara was educated in the Saint Louis public school system. She graduated from Hadley Tech School and attended Harris Stowe State College.
On July 17, 1961, she married the late Charles E. Blake. They were married 17 years and their union was blessed with three precious children (Andre', Angela and Cheryl).
As an Air Force wife, she and family traveled extensively throughout the United States.
Upon returning to Saint Louis, Barbara joined the New Northside Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully until her health failed. She was Secretary for the Singles Ministry.
Barbara was employed by Famous-Barr Department Store for 17 years until her illness caused her to retire.
"Barbara Jean", as she was called by family and friends, was a loving and giving person. She was a strong-willed saved woman who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and her family.
