Miss Anderson was born into a prominent African American family that settled in Buffalo around 1832. She was one of the first African Americans to graduate from Syracuse University where she earned a Doctorate in Liberal Arts.
Miss Anderson taught school in Buffalo and was instrumental in the establishment of the Buffalo Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) . She served as secretary of the organization in 1917 and in 1928 she was elected President of the Buffalo NAACP . Miss Anderson was Aunt to the late Ora Louise Anderson Curry (9 Nov. 1920-5 Feb. 2002, first African American teacher at Bennett High School).
