Born in Valletta, Malta, in 1685, Seraphim Agius joined the Franciscan Minors and taught philosophy and theology in Malta and in Sicily. He was a well known preacher and was renowned for the pious life he led.

Agius was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Comacchio, Italy, by Pope Benedict XIII on August 27, 1726. He was never consecrated bishop for he died suddenly while visiting his native Malta. Agius was buried at the Ta' Ġieżu church of the Franciscan Fathers in Valletta.
