Born in Bukovica near Tomislavgrad, Croatia, Jozo Čuić graduated from grade school in Posusje and continued his studies at the Franciscan high school in Visoko. He finished his theological studies in Freiburg, Germany, in 1974 and was ordained priest on May 19 of that same year. Arriving in the United States on September 19, 1975, he immediately pursued his study of the English language in Chicago and Washington. Assistant pastor at St. Mary's in Steelton from 1976 until 1980, At that time he was transferred to St. Jerome Parish, Chicago, as associate pastor. He became pastor of St. Jerome's in Detroit where he stayed until 1989. He was then named pastor of St. Mary's in Steelton until 1995. In 1995 he was named pastor at St. Francis in Windsor, and in 2006, pastor in Troy, Michigan, where he served until 2010, when he became pastor of St. Leopold Mandic in London, Ontario, a position he retained until his death on June 17, 2014. He furthermore served on the custodial board twice between 1979 and 1982 and again from 1993 until 1997.
