Young Ronald Johnson and his cousin Wayne Mullendore were murdered in a "thrill slaying" in their home town of Rockford, Illinois. They were both 14 years old and had gone out together to visit a friend and were never seen alive again. They were found in a concrete shelter in Levings Park where they had both been shot in the back of the head and in the stomach. They were both described as good boys who participated in school, sports and church activities. They were seventh-graders at Wilson Junior High. Their killer was sentenced to two life terms.
