L.C. (short for library cat) was adopted by the library as a stray kitten and she became a familiar sight greeting patrons for over eight years. She was catapulted into the national limelight by her fury toward dogs. She began attacking on sight and her pent-up cat fury finally earned her banishment from the facility after an ultimate attack on the assistance dog of a Times reporter who promptly sued the city asking 1.5 million claiming the city violated his rights and the rights of others who use assistance dogs, and caused him to come into an unknown and dangerous, unsafe situation striking terror in him and causing lasting physical and emotional injury plus permanent damage to his dog. L.C. was given a home by a library employee where she lived out the subsequent three years of her life. She adjusted well to her new Escondido rural home becoming an ordinary cat with no duties. L.C. died quietly at the age of eleven suffering seizures caused by tumors.
