Joe H. Adame joined our heavenly Father on January 2, 2014, at the age of 90.
Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He was born on March 16, 1923, in Adkins, Texas, but lived all of his life in San Antonio.
Joe grew up in a large and loving family. He was born one of seven children to Maria H. and Jesus Adame. His family included five brothers and one sister.
At the age of 19, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country during World War II. He was assigned to the Battleship, USS Idaho, which was involved in almost every major battle in the Pacific Theater including the battles at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Guam.
At the end of WWII, Joe was on board the USS Idaho anchored in Tokyo Bay during the signing of the Japanese surrender on board the USS Missouri.
After the war, Joe worked at Kelly AFB for more than 35 years as a master mechanic of various aircraft including the C-5A, and C-5 Galaxy. He received numerous commendations for his work at Kelly AFB, and also for work performed while he was on assignments at other bases throughout the country and abroad to service aircraft.
Joe was also involved in his church, volunteering on Sunday afternoons as an usher at St. Luke's parish for many years.
His oldest granddaughter very affectionately called him "Papa", which he is still referred to by his grandchildren, their spouses and friends, and great-grandchildren to the present day.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Alice S. Adame; his parents, Maria H. and Jesus Adame; three brothers, Cornelio Adame, Manuel Adame, Roy Adame, and one sister, Marie Adame Doyle; he is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Canedy and husband Lawrence, and Lorraine Faye Ruiz; three grandchildren, Kimberlee Dennis Brysch and husband Andrew, Aimee Dennis Wauters and husband Steven, Jason F. Dennis and wife Samantha; five great-grandchildren, Drew and Jack Brysch, Allison and Abigail Wauters, and Jason Dennis, Jr; two brothers, Jesse Adame of Apple Valley, CA, and Ralph Adame of San Antonio, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Mrs. Maria Rodriguez who greatly assisted us in caring for Joe for the past few years.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Porter Loring on McCullough.
