He was born in Henry County on Feb. 3, 1941, to Thomas Adkins and Mary Ingram Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Mason, Lucille Wright and Inez Via; and four brothers, Ralph Adkins, Thomas Adkins, Gene Adkins and Bobby Adkins.
Adkins was owner/operator of an auto body shop. He served in the Army, and he was a member of Mount Hermon Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Adkins of the home; a stepson, Tim Funderburk of Cookeville, Tenn.; two sisters, Nancy A. Wyatt of Collinsville and Mary Jane Hall of Fieldale; and three stepgrandchildren.
