Melvin Bailey Jr., age 85, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 21, 2007, at Marion General Hospital.

Born Jan. 7, 1922, the son of the late Melvin and Orpha Jane Bailey, the oldest of seven brothers and sisters, Ellsworth Bailey, Richard Bailey, Joan Cartmill, and Howard Bailey. A sister, Letha McClead and a brother, Larry Bailey, preceded him in death.

On June 14, 1947, Melvin married Ruth (Corwin) Bailey, who preceded him death.

His daughter, Cindy Bailey, also preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, Garry (Carolyn) Bailey, and David (Terrie) Bailey of Marion. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Nicholas (Amber) Bailey, Livonia, Mich., Bryan Bailey, Toledo, Bethany, Abby and Joshua Bailey of Marion; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Bailey, Livonia, Mich.
A World War II veteran, Melvin graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1941 and entered the Army Air Corps in October of 1942, serving through 1956, in the South Pacific Theater with the 194th Air Depot Group.

Melvin retired from the Marion City Schools after 30 years of service. Member of the former Calvary United Methodist Church and VFW Post of Marion.
