Henry County native Joe Atkins, 76, of Murray died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at Murray Calloway County Hospital.
Services will be scheduled at a later date. The body will be cremated. Ridgeway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Atkins was born March 3, 1939, in Puryear to the late Taylor and Lela Wilson Atkins.
He was married Dec. 12, 1957, to Shelby Davis Atkins, who survives.
Atkins was Baptist and a U.S. Army veteran. He was in the car business for 43 years, working at several dealerships in West Tennessee and formerly owning a dealership in Camden.
He received various awards for being top salesman in the mid-1960s. He retired after working 16 years for Parker Ford in Murray.
A family member said he was a loving father and former Jaycee.
Atkins also is survived by a daughter: Kimberly “Kim” Key Atkins of Tallahassee, Fla.; a son: Joel Eugene “Gene” (Peggy) Atkins of Dallas; and a brother: Billy W. (Barbara) Atkins of Sycamore, Ill.
He was also preceded in death by a brother: Bob Atkins.
