Mrs. Anna Allen was the proprietor of the William H. Allen Bookstore in Philadelphia with her husband William. She was a noted bibliophile who collected children's books and silhouettes. The store has a national reputation, specializing in old history, philosophy and literature. She was a graduate of Swarthmore College and the Drexel University Library School. Her son George joined her in the business in 1945. She was a familiar sight at book auctions and at other bookstores. She belonged to the Booksellers Association of Philadelphia and was a founder of the Antiquarian Booksellers of Philadelphia. She also had two other sons, Charles and Ernest; and a daughter Eleanor Allen.
