SSG Harvey Brewington Jr, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Staff Sergeant Harvey Brewington Jr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SSG Brewington served our country until February 7th, 1967 in Binh Hoa, South Vietnam. He was 29 years old and was married. It was reported that Harvey died from small arms fire and or Grenade. His body was recovered. Harvey was born on November 7th, 1937 in Cross Creek, North Carolina. SSG Brewington is on panel 15E, line 003 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 10 years.

SSG Brewington was the NCOIC of a Mortar Platoon. He and three others died in a VC attack on their position of the company that Sgt John Wilson commanded. They were on a landing zone in War Zone "D" on an operation called "Big Spring". Wilson remembers him as calm, competent and completely professional. He had just shown some family pictures to his platoon leader when a VC claymore mine cut him down. John H Wilson.

"They shall not grow old. As we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them." From "The Ode of Remembrance" by O.L. Binyon, John H Wilson.

I was his platoon leader: Honor, Respect. Remembering Sgt Brewington as my platoon sergeant. On 02 Feb 67 we were standing shoulder to shoulder with our backs to the perimeter. He was showing me a photo of his little girl. Suddenly there was an explosion just outside our position. We both went down. I got up, he didn't. He was killed. The sweet face of that little girl stays with me. I don't have any photos of him. Sgt Brewington was the epitome of a professional soldier and paratrooper. Stephen Reilly, 413 Drayton Road, Oreland, Pennsylvania 19075.

He is the Son of Mr Harvey Brewington Sr and Mrs Armentine Lilly Brewington, 512 Langdon Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
