Maurice L. "Morrie" Alexander, 80, Geneseo, died Friday, June 16, 2006, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.

Private services will be at a later date. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Estate, Moline, where military rites will be accorded by Geneseo American Legion. The Rev. John Davis will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be donated to your favorite charity.

Morrie was born on Jan. 12, 1926, in Moline, the son of Otto Vaughn and Vona Isal Nicholson Alexander. He was a graduate of United Township High School, East Moline. He served his country as a Navy Motor Machinist Mate 2nd Class from 1944 to 1946. Morrie married Leora "Bonnie" LaVonne on June 7, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1998.

He was a machinist for Rock Island Rail Road Company for many years and later was a maintenance repairman for Peabody Coal Co. He refused to completely retire and had his own repair service. Morrie was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo, and the Atkinson American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, card club, his walking group, working on small machinery, traveling and socializing.

Survivors include three children (and spouses), Sharon Carol (Dan) Long, Michigan, Danny (Sue) Alexander, Geneseo, Janette Arkland, Geneseo; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother (and spouse), Kermit (Jean) Alexander, Silvis; close and dear friend, Myrtle Geuns and her wonderful family. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Renae Michelle; one son, Dale Lee; and one niece, Paula Breeden.
