Murder Victim. Julie, her mother Carole, and a family friend from Argentina, Silvina Pelosso, were tourists at Yosemite National Park who were reported missing in February of 1999. The case drew international attention and finally in March of 1999 the three women's bodies were recovered. Eventually Cary Stayner was arrested for what became known as "The Yosemite Murders." Stayner was sentenced to death. At Julie Sund's funeral many spoke of the beautiful young woman who always seemed to be smiling. Julie and her mother share a common tombstone.
