This info is subject to change. He was born July 20, 1842, in Virgina (or possibly Kentucky). He died April 3, 1913 in Bentonville, AR. I believe he (and his wife) are in unmarked graves in Bentonville Cemetery but have not been able to confirm this. (They lived in Bentonville at time of deaths.)

His father John Thomas Redd was born May 20, 1815 in Caroline, VA and died January 23, 1890 in Trigg, KY.
His mother, Eliza Ann Cartwright, was born August 8, 1821 in Hopkinsville, Christian, KY and died Aprill 16, 1853 in Trigg, KY. Both buried in Redd Cemetery, Cadiz, Trigg, Kentucky.
Subject to change if I get new info.

In the 1880 Census James is said to be a 38 yr old farmer living with wife, Sary. They live in Osage Township (later renamed Bentonville), Benton County, Arkansas. They have these children at home:

James E., age 9, born in Kansas
John Sanders Red, age 7, born in Kansas

In the 1900 Census he was living in Osage Township (Bentonville) in Benton County, Arkansas. He was listed as a Day Laborer who had been unemployed for 6 months and lived in a rented house. His age was listed as 54, married, white, and said he had been married for 40 years.

His wife was Sarah Red (Sarah Elizabeth 'Sary' Wyatt Red) and it listed the following children were still living in the home:

Martha, age 17, born in Arkansas
