David was the son of Craig and Vader (Vanhorn) Abernethy. He had two children: Glen M. and Rachel Cutine from a previous marriage. He later married (2) Era Mae Arndt Bolick.

David Abernethy

David Marce Abernethy, 88, of Startown Road, Maiden, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 after a period of declining health and brief stays at Brian Center and Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born March 26, 1923, he was the son of the late Craig Lee Abernethy and Vadar VanHorn Abernethy.
David was a service manager for Nuzum-Cross Chevrolet in Newton and Setzer Buick in Lincolnton. He was a U. S. Army veteran who served in World War II and a member of Westside Baptist Church in Maiden.
He was an avid gardener and was the owner/ operator of Abernethy Radiator Service in Newton.
A daughter, Cutine Abernethy Matthews and husband Roger of the home; a son, Glenn M. and wife Joanne Foster Abernethy of Horse Shoe; a step-daughter Pam Saine and husband Terry of Newton; a son, a step-son Jeff Bolick and wife Anne of Plano, Texas; three sisters, Mary Berryhill of Hickory, JoAnn Fox and husband JC of Claremont and Barbara Abernethy of Winston Salem; two brothers, Howard Lee Abernethy of Hickory and Steve Abernethy of Newton; a grand-daughter, Glenda Cordray and husband Shep of Horse Shoe; four step-grandchildren; a great grandson, Luke; and numerous nieces and nephews survive him.
His wife Era Arndt Bolick Abernethy; two brothers, Rufus Leroy Abernethy and Wyatt Marcus Abernethy preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov.
20 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel in Newton.
The Rev. William "Bud" Painter will officiate.
The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 in the chapel.
Entombment will follow the Mausoleum at Catawba Memorial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 16.
Pallbearers include Rex Thomas, Dale Yancey, Gene Hoover, JC Fox, Wayne Hedgpath and Shep Cordray.
