Alfred "Al" Abernathy of Congress died March 20 at Wickenburg Community Hospital. He was 89.
Mr. Abernathy was born April 22, 1904 in Vinton. Iowa.
He had been an electrician with Arizona Public Service Co. and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Whittier, California.
Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife Marie Abernathy; daughter Ruth Deffenbaugh of Las Vegas; step-daughter Sheila Wiman of Ajo, Arizona; sons Gale of Eugene, Oregon, Clyde of Phoenix and Jack of Hurford, Arizona; step-son Kenny Garvin of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers Ross of Vinton, Iowa, Dallas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Bob of Vinton, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Wickenburg Funeral Home today (Wednesday, March 23) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and services will be held at the Wickenburg Funeral Home today at 4 p.m., with ministers Bob Harrison, George Thorton and David Henery officiating. Interment will be at the Wickenburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
