ayle Douglas Bird, 77, of Madison, died Friday, July 24, 2009, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He was born April 24, 1932, in Trimble County, Ky., the son of Oscar and Hazel Bird. He was in the concrete construction business for many years. He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed gardening, watching birds and being outside. He was also an avid University of Kentucky fan.

He is survived by five daughters, Deborah Sue Cooley of Florida, Linda Gale Robinson of Frankfort, Ky., Vickie Lynn Burgess of Ghent, Ky., Sandra Bruner of Loogootee and Terri Lee Cull of Milton, Ky.; two sons, Steven Douglas Bird of Maysville, Ky., and Jeffery Allen Bird of Madison; one sister, Velva Webster of Madison; one half sister, Mildred Ridgeway of Fair Oaks, Calif.; his companion, Ruth Ann Bridgewater; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two aunts; and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one half brother, William Bird.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Wood-Oakley Funeral Home in Milton, Ky. Burial in Moffett Cemetery.

Friends called at the funeral home Wednesday, July 29, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, July 30, 2009, from 9 a.m. until the service.
