Robert Verne "Bob" Cooley, 62, of Garden City, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, will announce arrangements.

Robert "Bob" Cooley, 62, of Garden City, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, in Wichita, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.

He was born March 13, 1947, in Lane County, to Clifford E. and Eva E. Churchill Cooley. He grew up in Lane County, where he helped his family on the farm while attending school. After graduating from Healy High School, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War.

After the service, Mr. Cooley returned in 1969 and moved to Garden City, where he worked for Oswalt Livestock Products Division of Heyco before becoming owner and operator of B&L Towing Company in 1995. In 2004, he became owner and operator of Quality Cab. Known as a very passionate and loving person, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and woodworking, and he loved his pets. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Patriot Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Cooley, of the home; three sons, Luke Cooley of Garden City, and Shannon and Troy Johnson, both of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; three daughters, Sonja Unruh of Holcomb, Lauri Russel of Wichita, and Donna Recob of St. Joseph, Mo.; his mother, of Healy; three brothers, Archie and James Cooley, both of Healy, and Lester Cooley of Hamilton, Mont.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Randy Cooley.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, officiated by Robert DeLeon, pastor. Burial at Healy Cemetery.

Visitation hours were 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2009, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Finney County Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.
