“EZRA AYER DIES THURSDAY MORNING

Nebraska Pioneer Succumbs At The Age Of 89 Years - Had Lived In Aurora For 20 Yrs.

Ezra Ayer, 89, a well known resident of the community passed away at 7:45 Thursday morning at the Nursing home, where he was being cared for during the absence of his daughter. Mr. Ayer had been frail health the past few years due to his advanced age.
Born in Canada on March 26, 1854, he moved with his parents to DeKalb county, Ill., when 2 years old. After a brief residence there the family moved to Minn., and later returned to Henderson county, Ill. In 1870 Mr. Ayer went to Mill county, Iowa where he spent the most of his time until 1885 when he decided to come west, locating just over the line into Clay county where he purchased a quarter section of land.
In 1875 he was married to Miss Mary J. Hay. To this union four children were born: Leonard E., who passed away in 1931; Gertrude Wood, of Aurora; Mrs. Geneva Campbell of Colville, Wash. and Mrs. Blanche Rath of Eldorado.
Mr. Ayer was always interested in the development and improvement of his community, he took an active part in the Christian church while his health permitted and served as a school board member for many years. He was a good friend and a kindly father, who will be greatly missed.
In 1922 Mr. and Mrs. Ayer gave up their active farm life and came to Aurora, where they made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Wood. It was here Mrs. Ayer passed away on April 19, 1930. Mrs. Wood has continued to care for her father thru the years, and it was on the advice of her physician that she went to California a few weeks ago for a rest in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Childers.
Surviving are the three daughters, and several grandchildren.
Mrs. Wood arrived from the coast on Thursday afternoon and complete funeral arrangements have not been made altho services will be held from the Vodra Funeral Home with Rev. F. H. Stephenson officiating.
Interment will be in the Harvard cemetery.”
