As of 2014 there are about 6900 names etched on the panels. The work has been financed with private donations and volunteers provide the labor. The wall was started by members of what is now known as the Chicago-based Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run to show respect and honor those who have died in conflicts. The site chosen, donated, and agreed upon is directly next to the Illinois River.
The wall is located below Marseilles Dam which results in the constant sound of rippling Water which lends a serene aura to the Memorial.
