He was the son of William and Freda Ahrendt, formerly of New York.

He had been teaching a special instrumentation course since the previous March at the National University of Engineering in Lima and written a book on the topic. The plane crashed in the Andes Mountains. Ticlio is at 16,000 feet.

He was also Chairman and Treasurer of Integron, Inc. of W. Hyattsville, Maryland. He was in Peru in behalf of the Fulbright Act.
