NINETY SIX - Joseph Wilson "Joe" Brehmer, Jr., 92, resident of Highway 702, widower of Drucilla Calhoun Brehmer, died July 3, 2011 at Hospice House in Greenwood.
Born in Newberry, October 15, 1918, he was a son of the late Joseph Wilson Brehmer, Sr. and Eunice Sterling Brehmer. He was a graduate of Bush River High School, a US Army Veteran of World War II and retired as store manager from Piggly Wiggly in Ninety Six.
Mr. Brehmer was a member of Siloam Baptist Church where he formerly taught the Joe Brehmer Bible Class for 23 years and served as Deacon and former chairman of Deacons. He was also a member of the Woodman of the World and D.A.V. and the recipient of the Palmetto Patriot's Award given by Lt. Governor Andrea Bauer in the fall of 2010.
Surviving is a daughter, Gail Reid and husband Mac of Ninety Six; three granddaughters, Alison Reid of Greenwood, Marcie Turner and husband Justin of Ninety Six and Katie Babb and husband Matt of Greenwood.



Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Webb officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Julius Calhoun, Jack Kirk, Roger Calhoun, Dr. Gerald Robinson, Warren Reynolds, Stanley Vines and Paul Kennemore.
Honorary escort will be members of the Joe Brehmer Sunday School Class along with Ed Nixon, Wilbur McKittrick, Carold White and George Reid.
The family is at the home of Gail and Mac Reid, 206 Port Royal Drive in Ninety Six and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
