Sarah was the daughter of Peter and Jane Ruble Lester of Newberry County, South Carolina. In 1809 she married George Harmon in Newberry County. They later were among the first families that settled near what became known as Harmontown in Lafayette County, Mississippi. They were parents to two sons, James R. and Levi Smith Harmon.
