Amanda was a daughter of William and Cynthia Ann Collins Welch. She married Wesley Garrett about 1851 and was the mother of five children: Richard Worthington "Worth", Julia F., Nancy Caroline, George H., and Mary Elizabeth Garrett. She died about 1866. Because the courthouse in Powell County, Kentucky was burned twice during the Civil War, there is little information on Amanda which can be pinpointed, such as her actual dates of birth and death, and where she is buried. Amanda's husband Wesley would marry her sister Lucy following her death. Wesley was living in Powell County, Kentucky for the 1860 census (when Amanda was still alive), and he was still in Powell County with his new wife Lucy in time for the 1870 census. It stands to reason that Amanda was buried in Powell County, Kentucky, but the exact location is unknown.
