Robert and his brother James originally came from Virginia and settled next to one another on Peter's Trace Fork of Slate Creek next to Edward Hall in Montgomery County, Kentucky. Both Robert and his brother married and lived long lives: Robert was 99 at his death, and his brother was almost 101. Robert served in the Revolutionary War and stated on a Pension Application from that War that he was born in Prince William County, Virginia. Eventually, however, both Robert and James would live in various counties of Virginia. They were Baptist in leaning, and that may have made it more difficult to function since the majority faith of the area was Church of England. On August 2, 1785, Robert married Verlinda Cox, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Cox, in Faquier County, Virginia. Robert and Verlinda had a large family of eleven children, all born in Virginia. Sometime between the 1810 and 1820 census, the entire family relocated to Montgomery County, Kentucky. Robert was over sixty years of age when this was taking place. James and Robert are both said to be buried in Branham Cemetery, but the marking stone for Robert has been either lost or destroyed.
