Catherine Adams. Committed by Samuel Cowles Police Judge of San Francisco September 4th 1863. Age twenty eight years; native of Ireland; Married; has two children, the youngest one year old; was last from Massachusetts; has been in California about eleven years; was occupied in taking care of her family; insanity first appeared about one week ago; this is the first attack; disease increasing; has no rational intervals; is worse at night; derangement is manifested by a desire to injure herself and children; has no permanent hallucination; attempted to injure herself last Sunday - attempted also to choke her children; is not filthy or destructive in her habits; says her Grand Mother was insane; had no peculiarities, was temperate; has not suffered from disease or injury so far as known; no change in health since the attack unless loss of appetite, has not been restrained; cause - thought to be hereditary; treatment, anti spasmodic. Admitted September 6th 1863. Has no property. Died September 7th 1863.
