BATCHELDER, Richard James "Batch" - Richard James "Batch" Batchelder, 81, a longtime resident of Enfield, entered into his eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, (March 3, 2007) in Stafford. Born on August 11, 1925 in Manchester, NH, Dick was the son of the late George and Alice (St. Laurent) Batchelder. A veteran of World War II, Dick served in the U.S. Navy as a flagman. Prior to his retirement in 1986 after 26 years of service, Dick was employed by the Department of Corrections working in minimum security. He held the position of supervisor of maintenance and also worked in the hobby shop. He was a master carpenter and cabinet maker. Dick was a member of the AmVet's Post No. 18, the Knights of Columbus and the Enfield B.P.O.E. #2222. An avid golfer, Dick golfed with the CSP Golf League and won many golf championships. Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Harriet (Gagne) Batchelder, his two daughters, Lynn Santanella of Enfield; Dr. Barbara Batchelder Bradley and her husband, Barry of Simsbury; his son, Rick Batchelder and his wife, Dianna of Enfield; his eight grandchildren, Richard Santanella, Jr. and his fiance Heather Amundson, and Peter Santanella and his girlfriend Shannon Trench, Zachary and Luke Bradley, Marc Sitler, Rachel, Sarah and Ricky Batchelder. He was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Parnham. Family and friends may gather at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 9 a.m. for a funeral procession to Holy Family Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick King Street Cemetery. Dick's family will receive relatives and friends TODAY, March 6, at the funeral home from 5 - 8 p.m. Memorial contributions in Dick's memory may be made to American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, E.
